a portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2014

I was mildly stressing in the back of my mind about Raffa's footwear (oh lawd, the things that a momma worries about can be ri-dic-u-lous!). But, seeing as he has only (and I mean, absolutely only) worn Freshly Picked moccasins as footwear as an infant, crawler, and now a walker; I was a little concerned as to how to transition him into regular, hard-soled shoes. I still want him to wear his moccs the most, because, well, I love them, but he does have one pair of sneakers that I was wanting to give a try. Plus, rain and snow don't mix with moccs, so eventually he is going to need to wear "regular" shoes.  In my mind I imagined having to force the sneakers on Raffa's feet and then allow a period of letting him get used to the idea of hard soled shoes. To prepare him over the past couple months, I had been letting him handle and play with this brand new pair of shoes as I changed his diaper.

However, yesterday, out of the blue, he went and grabbed the sneakers, brought them to me and was clearly requesting I put them on his feet. I put them on and he was off walking around the house in them. Then we went outside and played with fallen apples (he likes to pick apples up and toss them) and tottled around the driveway in the sneakers. A perfect example of me over-thinking things when in reality, he just put on the shoes and walked - easy as that.
