a portrait of my son, once a week, every week, in 2014

photo taken july 25, 2014 // Denver, Colorado

This photo gives me a glimpse into the little boy Raffa is becoming as he transitions from baby to toddler/child. Everyone says the transition from crawling to walking goes quickly, and now I believe it. In the span of about two weeks Raffa is less a baby and more a independent little human being.

And, this week, I have been reminded of the powerful beauty and happiness Raffa brings into my life, even in difficult times. As my family and I faced the tragic loss of my uncle, my mom's brother, Raffa's and Asher's (my nephew) sweetness, was just about the only thing that could put a smile on our faces.

My uncle was a good man with a good heart and he loved his family. He was hard working, ambitious, and intelligent. He had a fantastic sense of humor. He was all those things and so much more to so many people; but most importantly at his core, he was a good human. He was an irreplaceable part of the fabric of my family and our lives. We lost him on Monday and none of us will ever be the same.

Such wonderful photos. Thank you for sharing them both. Should I be at all surprised that your Uncle Steve was so handsome?! What a wonderful memory, and to see how happy he made you and the photo taker then. My heart aches for you and your family. I'm sending lots and lots of love your way.
